The trip was essentially over at Crater Lake, but we added Craters of the Moon and Grand Tetons as short stops on our way back. We didn't get to really see either one, but we had places to camp and nice hikes to stretch our legs. But as of this morning, it's just 32 hours home. I had listed a fair number of possible "road trip" stops such as the Pony Express Museum or Largest Spool of Thread that we might have done, but due to some family concerns we decided to just push straight home.
We did stop at the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge in Omaha that spans between Nebraska and Iowa. We ended up parked at the Lewis and Clark National Trail Headquarters, which is a National Park Visitor Center. We moseyed a couple miles across the bridge and back and then through the Visitor's Center. It was a great break.
For some reason, despite picking the southern route I wanted, Google kept rerouting me to head for Chicago. I really did not want to go anywhere near Chicago, and eventually I convinced it to take me through Indianapolis instead (by ignoring it's demand to exit). Google decided to punish me by leading down a road full of traffic lights before getting back on the same highway I had just left. I'm sure that had the potential to save me a minute and a half if I hit all the lights green. That, of course, didn't happen.
We pushed pretty hard, stopping around 9ish when it got dark and got home around 5 PM on Sunday. It wasn't the best way to come home, but that's how it worked out. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.
